We already know that Depending on the country, Samsung has released different variants of their flagships S8 and S8+. While it released international variants of the device with Exynos chipset, it also released another variant with Snapdragon 835 chipset in few countries like US and China. Apart from the chipset change, remaining all other features remain same. Finally, the latest TWRP recovery 3.1.1 is ported for the Snapdragon variant of Samsung S8 and S8+.

Change of chipset has a considerable impact when it comes to rooting or unlocking of any device. International variants with Exynos processors can be easily unlocked, after enabling the OEM unlock toggle in the Developer options. Also, TWRP recovery for the Exynos variants was available starting from the April itself. But coming to the Snapdragon variant, unlocking is not easy to achieve, due to its limited availability and locked bootloader.

Xda recognized senior developer Jesec, ported these TWRP images for the Snapdragon variants(Current TWRP version- 3.1.1). Users can download them from the Google drive links in the download section below.

  1. TWRP for Samsung S8 (Snapdragon 835 variant).
  2. TWRP for Samsung S8+ (Snapdragon 835 variant).

These recovery images are strictly meant for Snapdragon variants of Samsung S8 and S8+. Flashing them on the International variants may result in bricked devices. Users with Exynos variants can visit our guide, How to Unlock, Install TWRP and Root Samsung S8/S8+(Exynos variants).

Though TWRP recovery is now available, Bootloader unlocking process for Snapdragon variants is not yet revealed by the Samsung. While most of the Snapdragon versions of  S8 and S8+ has come with locked bootloader, few variants of S8 and S8+ released in China have unlocked bootloader (As reported by few users from China).

Many of us already know that Unlocking the bootloader is a must and should process to flash TWRP Recovery and to Root the Device. So users of S8 and S8+ with Snapdragon variants have to wait for some more time to obtain the root on their flagship smartphone.
